Our Ethos

At The Minster School we are always "Succeeding Together".  This is our school motto and it is inspired by a quote from the bible.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord.”

colossians 3:23

Succeeding together means we help all members of our school community to work together, care for each other and realise their potential in their studies and all other aspects of life.

To help us do that and to create the best community we can in and out of school, there are 5 virtues we think about and aspire to every day.

Watch the Ethos video on our YouTube channel to find out more about what those virtues mean and how we live every day succeeding together at The Minster School.

Frequently Asked Questions ...

How can I get answers to my questions about Minster?

Well, you're in the right place.  Hopefully this section will answer some of your questions.  If you go to one of The Minster Family Primary Schools, the Year 7 Leader, Miss Sanderson, will visit your school to answer your questions sometime in June to talk to you.  If you don't go to a Family School then you and your parents or carers will be invited to visit The Minster School on 23rd June to have your chance to ask questions.

How will I find my way around The Minster School?

On your first full day at school in September, you will spend quite a lot of time with your Form Tutor and your Tutor Group before you go to any lessons.  You will have a further tour of the school and the chance to find out where everything is.  You will go to some lessons later in the day and you will be collected at the end of each lesson and taken to the next.  You can also have a map to show you where everything is if you want one ... you can find one at the bottom of this page.

Will I be able to visit Minster School before I start in September?

Yes!  All new starters will be invited to an activity afternoon on Wednesday 25th June to have some fun and meet new people.  You will also be invited to a whole day at Minster on Monday 30th June so you can spend a day getting to know your classmates and get a feel for how a Minster School day feels.

When will I find out if I'm in a class with my friends?

When you visit school on the 30th June you will be told which House you will be in, who your tutor will be and you will also meet the pupils who will be in your teaching group. Some of these may be people you know from your Primary School and some will be brand-new faces.

What is the Minster school uniform, and where can I get it from?

All the information you need about your uniform is here on the school website.  You can find a link at the bottom of this page.

How much homework is set each week?

We use a staggered approach to homework at the start of Year 7, with a period of a few weeks with no homework at all being set while you settle in to school.  After this, we will introduce homework in a range of subjects, but not all at the same time. Once you have settled in to school, you will receive homework of around 4 hours each week.

What clubs and activities does Minster School run?

We have a wide range of activities which change throughout the school year.  We have late buses which run to most areas within the school catchment on three nights of the week to allow you to travel home after their clubs.

Our clubs include the usual sports (football, netball, rugby, hockey) plus some others which you may wish to try out (dance, dodgeball, gymnastics etc.)

We run music activities. We have a large choir, a full orchestra, ensembles for each orchestra section, plus a songwriters’ club.  Each year there is also an annual school musical which you can audition to perform in or support as technical assistance.  We have a Drama and an Art club and also a coding and a Dungeons and Dragons club.
