Our school vision is based on the principle of Succeeding Together. Enabling all members of our school community to work together, care for each other and strive to realise their potential in their studies and all other aspects of life as unique and valued children of God. This vision is based on Christian principles and rooted in scripture.

Our school vision can only be achieved through hard work in every aspect of life. As Paul wrote “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord.” Colossians 3:23.

Through our vision we believe in developing our 5 Christian WORKS virtues of Wisdom, Optimism, Resilience, Kindness and Service. These are the fruits of our vision and demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus in our everyday lives.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your hearts, as though you were working for the Lord.”

Colossians 3:23

Spirituality

As a school we define Spirituality as:
Spirituality is the concept of exploring the purpose and meaning of life, to develop a sense of awe and wonder at the world we live in, to question our place within it and to work to care for our body, mind and soul. Spirituality is not dependent on religious belief or a particular faith.

Opportunities are built into the wider curriculum to allow students to explore the Christian faith in more detail, through regular Acts of Worship as well as half termly invitational services and End of Term

services which are led by the school Chaplain. The curriculum encourages students to reflect on these themes through one of 3 lenses.

Worship

As a Church school we offer a range of opportunities for students to reflect on, explore and deepen their faith in relation to the Christian virtues that are at the heart of the school, Biblical teachings, the examples of Jesus and the life of key religious thinkers.

Students have a daily act of worship linked to a weekly theme which is underpinned by a Biblical teaching. Worship is carried out in year groups or tutor groups and each year has a different timetable. See below for an example:

Themes are linked to our school vision, school virtues, the Christian calendar or key themes or dates in society. For example:

Links to local churches

The Minster School is unique in its close links with Southwell Minster, the cathedral church for the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. The school also has strong links with local Baptist and Methodists as well as both Riverside and Holy Trinity churches.

The school has an ecumenical chaplaincy team who support daily acts of worship and opt-in services. The Cathedral is used for our End of Term services and the school continues its heritage as the choir school for the cathedral with boys and girls who attend.
