Core Mathematics is offered as one of our enrichment options in Year 12. It is a one-year course which carries UCAS points equivalent to an AS level qualification. On the course students study and develop their mathematical skills beyond GCSE.
This course provides a practical approach to mathematics, which supports other A level qualifications and can be studied by anyone who has achieved grade 5 in GCSE Higher Mathematics.
Universities and employers value numeracy skills as well as literacy. Core Mathematics develops key mathematical skills and demonstrates your ability to process and analyse data effectively. Core Mathematics is a particularly useful course for students who are not studying Maths at A Level as it develops and demonstrates a wide range of skills that may not be covered in your other studies. Much of the content will support the mathematical skills you need for several other A level subjects such as PE, Business Studies, Psychology and Geography.
You will follow the AQA Level 3 Certificate in Mathematical Studies (1350).
The course is assessed via two written examination papers in the summer of Year 12.
Paper 1 (60 Marks) 1h 30 mins
Paper 2A Statistical Techniques (60 Marks) 1h 30 mins
